Common Bra Problems

Many of our customers have similar complaints about their current bras when they come to Lucile for a fitting, so here is a quick guide to the most common problems and their solutions:

  1. I am bulging out of my cups!

If this is happening to you, you need a bigger sup size. Even balcony or plunge bras, your breasts should fit neatly into the cups with no bulges at either the side or at the top of the cup. To ensure that your cup size is right bend down slightly in your bra and make sure there is no over spill in the cup.

  2. My cups are wrinkly!

Wrinkly cups usually mean the cup size is too big. Try going down a cup size and completing the bulge test as above to get to the right bra size.

  3. The wires at the front of my bra are sticking out!

To get the support that your breasts need, the wires that sit inbetween your breasts at the front of your ribcage should sit flat against your chest, so if you have a gap between the wire and your rib cage, try going down a back size until the wires are sitting snugly against your chest.

  4. The shoulder straps are painful!

Try loosening the straps, it is a common misconception that the tighter the strap, the more support your bra is offering you. The shoulder straps should sit comfortably against your skin and not give you any pain. They should be suitably positioned so that the band does not rise up around your back. If the straps are leaving indentations on your skin, try going down a back size so you are getting support from the band without the breasts putting pressure on your shoulders.

  5. My bra is giving me a lumpy shilouette!

You may be surprised to hear that you need to go down a back size to make sure your breasts are fully supported. A correctly fitted bra should sit flat against your rib cage without causing any unslightly lumps and bumps.

  6. My underwire is digging into my armpit!

Try going up a cup size and remember that underwire should encase the breast and not sit on it.

  7. My band is rising up my back!

You need to try a smaller back size! Most people think that when the back of your bra is rising higher than the front of your bra, you need to go up a back size- not true! You need to go DOWN a back size and ensure that the band sits in a straight line right around your ribcage.

  8. My breasts are falling out of the bottom of my bra!

Try going down a back size so that your breasts are fully supported by your bra.
